USD payments: ACH, Wire and FedNow

Understand U.S. dollar receiving details, funding and eligible bank payouts.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Before a USD payment

Verification, account approval and partner activation must be complete. A standard USD account may be issued after those steps. Until usable instructions appear in your workspace, there is nothing to share with a payer.

Check the country directory, including U.S. state restrictions. A currency listing alone does not establish access to all three rails.

Receiving or funding in USD

  1. Use the current beneficiary name, account number, routing details and any reference displayed for the selected route.
  2. Tell the sender whether to use ACH or a U.S. domestic wire. Do not assume the same routing information works for both.
  3. Confirm that the payer type is permitted. Funding from your own account and receiving a business payment are different flows.
  4. Keep the sender’s confirmation and track the payment in Ostro.

A domestic routing number is not a SWIFT code. Do not use these instructions for a SWIFT payment unless the workspace explicitly supports that separate route.

Choosing a USD payout

Use an eligible verified bank destination and the options actually offered. FedNow requires route enablement and a participating recipient bank; it is not an automatic upgrade for every USD transfer. The destination bank can also affect Same Day ACH availability.

What timing to expect

ACH follows banking-day schedules. Wires have a daily cutoff; the receiving bank may need additional processing time. An enabled FedNow rail can settle around the clock, but account checks and reviews still apply.

See the processing windows for current reference estimates rather than assuming a payment will arrive immediately.

If the payment has not arrived

For ACH, ask the sending bank for its trace number. For a domestic wire, ask for the IMAD or wire reference. Confirm the amount, date and routing details used before contacting Ostro. Do not submit another payment to test the account while the first is missing.
