Receiving payments

Can I receive a SWIFT payment?

Use the specific local or regional rail shown in your receiving instructions.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Do not use domestic receiving instructions for a SWIFT payment. Only send through the currency and payment rails explicitly enabled in your workspace.

Applies to
Customers and eligible payers using available receiving instructions.

In this guide

The local receiving arrangements described in this help center should not be used for SWIFT transfers. An account number or IBAN alone does not establish SWIFT support.

For USD receiving details

Use the supported U.S. payment rail shown in your workspace, such as ACH or domestic wire. A domestic wire routing number is not a substitute for a SWIFT or BIC code.

Do not use a SWIFT code found through an internet search simply because it appears to belong to the same financial institution.

For other currencies

Follow the specified local or regional method, such as SEPA for EUR or Faster Payments for GBP, where enabled. Ask the payer to confirm that their bank can send through that method.

A transfer initiated internationally can still need to reach your receiving details through a supported local rail. The sending bank must establish whether it can do that correctly.

If the payer can only send SWIFT

Contact Ostro before the payer sends funds. Support can clarify the available options for your account; an alternative route is not guaranteed.

If an unsupported transfer has already been sent, provide its date, amount, currency and bank reference to support. A return or investigation may take time and may involve charges from payment participants.
