Receiving payments

GBP payments with Faster Payments

How supported British pound payments work, including payer checks and timing.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use the issued GBP instructions for eligible UK bank transfers. Faster Payments support does not mean every sender, customer location or transfer size is eligible.

Applies to
Eligible customers with an activated GBP route.

Check access before sharing details

GBP receiving instructions require account and route approval. Current partner route guidance excludes EU customers. It also does not support GBP receiving payments from third-party individuals; eligible first-party and business-originated payments have separate conditions.

If a friend, client acting personally or another individual wants to pay, confirm the flow with Ostro before sharing instructions. Do not describe their payment as your own funding.

Receiving GBP

  1. Share the exact beneficiary name, sort code, account number and reference shown, where those fields are provided.
  2. Ask the sender to use the supported domestic GBP transfer route.
  3. Keep the payment confirmation and check the incoming status.
  4. If the name or destination fails a bank check, pause and confirm the details.

These are the instructions for a specific payment route. They do not establish a general-purpose UK bank account or permission to receive every kind of transfer.

Timing and larger payments

Supported Faster Payments routes operate around the clock. Reviews and the institutions involved can still add time.

The partner timing reference describes transfers above £1 million using BACS, which can take up to three business days. This is not your account limit or a promise that a large transfer will be accepted. Confirm your available route and limit before arranging payment.

Paying out in GBP

Choose an eligible verified UK bank destination where offered. Review the actual payment method, charges and estimated timing, especially for a large transfer.

If something goes wrong

Ask the sending bank for the payment reference and confirmation of the transfer method used. A payer’s “sent” screen alone does not establish that funds are available to you. Follow the missing-payment checklist if the expected window has passed.
